Why Tata Trusts chose First Rain Exhibits
For over 125 years, Tata Trusts has been a driving force behind social change in India. As one of the country’s most respected philanthropic organizations, its mission is to uplift rural communities and promote sustainable development. When Tata Trusts envisioned an experiential exhibition to showcase the craftsmanship of rural artisans, they turned to First Rain Exhibits to bring this vision to life. The challenge was to create an immersive and interactive space that would allow visitors to connect with these artisans’ stories and products in a meaningful way.
Crafting ‘Kalpana’ – A space of dreams
The exhibition, aptly named ‘Kalpana’, was more than just a showcase—it was a sensory journey through India’s rural artistry. Our goal was to weave a narrative of dreams, tradition, and craftsmanship while providing a platform for artisans to gain both recognition and economic opportunity.

A venue steeped in heritage: A design rooted in innovation
Hosting the exhibition at Mumbai’s historic Bhau Daji Lad Museum meant balancing tradition with contemporary design. First Rain’s solution? A sleek, modular stall structure crafted from square pipes—visually striking yet highly functional. This design allowed for:
- Quick, hassle-free installation within the heritage space.
- Flexible display layouts to accommodate diverse artisanal products.
- An open, immersive environment that invited visitors to explore at their own pace.

The centerpiece: Weaving stories into design
The heart of the exhibition was a breathtaking installation that celebrated the artisans’ craft and journey:
- Raw wood podiums, showcasing handcrafted products in their purest form.
- An intricate thread-weave installation, symbolizing the artisans’ perseverance and creativity.
- Storytelling elements embedded within the design, bringing to life the struggles and triumphs of rural artisans.
More than just a display, this centerpiece became a symbol of heritage, craftsmanship, and human connection.
What Tata Trusts had to Say
Professional setup, widely appreciated.
We gave the First Rain team a little inspiration and even fewer resources. They put up an incredibly professional setup for the crafts show at the Prince of Wales Museum that was true to the brief and was appreciated by both the participants and visitors alike. It was a pleasure to initiate our maiden show with First Rain. Look forward to working with their team in the near future.
